Visitors to Carbondale Clay Center will travel through time, as local artists Annette and Andrew Roberts-Gray open their latest collaborative show.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are really excited and honored to host this collaborative exhibit by Andrew and Annette Roberts-Gray. The work in this show spans a variety of mediums, including clay, to present a unique and atypical exhibition for the Carbondale Clay Center,\u201d Clay Center Executive Director Angela Bruno said.<\/p>\n
The center will officially open the show with a reception from 6-8 p.m. Friday.<\/p>\n
The show uses the 1968 pop song \u201cIn the Year 2525,\u201d by Zager and Evans, as the theme for presented works in ceramic and painting mediums.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was a number one hit, it has a sort of a dystopian, future-like theme to it,\u201d artist Andrew Roberts-Gray said.<\/p>\n
Both artists have taught at the Anderson Ranch in Snowmass, and have extensively exhibited their work throughout the valley and beyond.<\/p>\n
The narrative elements of the songs are used as suggestions for visual tone, imagery and context for paintings, sculpture and mixed-media work.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think people will be really excited from our generations who remember the song,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
The show represents the second collaboration between the couple that have lived in the Roaring Fork Valley since the early 1990s.<\/p>\n
\u201cMost of the collaborative work in the show are paintings. We\u2019ve worked together on paper,\u201d Robert-Gray said. \u201cIt\u2019s a blend of traditional landscapes and science fiction \u2014 what the future may hold technologically.\u201d<\/p>\n
The event will include entertainment with Carbondale\u2019s own \u201cLet them Roar\u201d playing live.<\/p>\n
The center will also offer refreshments at the reception.<\/p>\n
The exhibition will run through Jan. 25 at the Carbondale Clay Center, located at 135 Main St.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think people will find that the imagery is very accessible,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe ideas are ones that they are familiar with, just presented in a way that will surprise them.\u201d<\/p>\n
