Aspen lodges tops state resorts in 2018<\/p>\n
An occupancy rate of nearly 65 percent placed Aspen lodges atop the state’s resort towns in 2018, according to the most recent edition of the Rocky Mountain Lodging Report, which was released Saturday.<\/p>\n
Aspen lodges participating in the survey, commissioned by the Colorado Hotel and Lodging Association, reported that bookings last year amounted to 64.8 percent, slightly ahead of the 64.2 percent posted in 2017.<\/p>\n
The state’s resorts combined for a 55.5 occupancy rate in 2018; the state’s overall average was 69.2 percent, according to the report.<\/p>\n
Aspen’s average daily rate of $513.22 was easily the highest in all of Colorado lodges in 2018; Telluride was the second most expensive at $338.52, while Vail was third at $336.53.<\/p>\n
For the month of December, Aspen lodges posted a 66.8 percent occupancy rate, third highest among resort towns. Breckenridge’s 71.8 percent topped Colorado resorts, with Steamboat Spring’s 67.3 percent making it the state’s second busiest ski town last month.<\/p>\n
With an average daily rate of $892.55 in December, Aspen lodges were Colorado’s priciest that month, according to the report.<\/p>\n
RETT collections drop<\/p>\n
The city of Aspen’s real estate transfer tax collections in 2018 were down 11.5 percent from 2017, according to Finance Department’s latest sales tax consumption report, issued Jan. 8.<\/p>\n
The affordable-housing portion of the tax drew $8.8 million in RETT collections in 2018, down from the $9.9 collected in 2017.<\/p>\n
The Wheeler Opera House segment earned $4.6 million last year, dropping off from the $5.2 million registered in 2017.<\/p>\n

Banks in the Roaring Fork Valley and elsewhere are closed today to recognize Martin Luther King Day.<\/p>\n
Other upcoming bank holidays include Washington’s Birthday on Feb. 19 and Memorial Day on May 27.<\/p>\n
