A fast-moving storm is rolling through Aspen and the Colorado mountains and high winds are a concern as a winter weather advisory remains in effect through Tuesday morning.<\/p>\n

The National Weather Service’s Grand Junction office predicts 4 to 8 inches of snow in the area before 9 a.m. Tuesday and winds gusting as high as 45 mph, the weather service said in Monday’s update<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In addition to difficult travel, the NWS advisory warns that the high winds could present extremely cold wind chills in the central and northern mountains.<\/p>\n

“Visibility may be reduced to under one mile at times in blowing and drifting snow,” the advisory says. “Cold wind chills as low as 20-below-zero could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes.”<\/p>\n

Heavy snow in Aspen started Monday morning and is forecast to continue into the evening and overnight.<\/p>\n

Highs for Tuesday and Wednesday are not expected to get above freezing, and another chance of snow is forecast for Wednesday evening.<\/p>\n
