{"id":2433343,"date":"2019-01-24T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2019-01-24T07:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.aspentimes.com\/?p=294782"},"modified":"2019-01-24T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2019-01-24T07:00:00","slug":"theatre-aspen-adds-god-of-carnage-to-summer-lineup","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/kspn\/local-news\/theatre-aspen-adds-god-of-carnage-to-summer-lineup\/","title":{"rendered":"Theatre Aspen adds \u2018God of Carnage\u2019 to summer lineup"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Yasmina Reza&#8217;s Tony Award-winning play &#8220;God of Carnage&#8221; will round out Theatre Aspen&#8217;s 2019 summer season.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">The play joins previously announced summer productions of &#8220;Guys and Dolls&#8221; and &#8220;Little Shop of Horrors&#8221; along with the Theatre Aspen Summer Conservatory show &#8220;The Wizard of Oz&#8221; at the Hurst Theatre in Rio Grande Park.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">&#8220;The addition of &#8216;God of Carnage&#8217; to our summer slate allows us to add a high-profile, contemporary comedy to our season,&#8221; said Theatre Aspen producing director Jed Bernstein. &#8220;This hilarious play joins two classic musicals under the tent for what we think is sure to be a summer to remember.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">It will be directed by Karen Azenberg, artistic director of Salt Lake City&#8217;s Pioneer Theatre Co., in her Theatre Aspen debut.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">&#8220;God of Carnage&#8221; premiered on Broadway in 2009, following a London production. The original cast included James Gandolfini, Hope Davis, Marcia Gay Harden and Jeff Daniels.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">In the play, a playground altercation between 11-year-old boys brings together two sets of Brooklyn parents for a meeting to resolve the matter. As the meeting progresses, tensions emerge and the gloves come off, leaving the couples with more than just their liberal principles in tatters.<\/p>\n<div id=\"single-mid-script\" class=\"p402_hide\">\n<h2>Recommended Stories For You<\/h2>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">The theater company will hold local auditions for all three of its main-stage shows Sunday, March 3, at the Red Brick Center for the Arts.
