{"id":2440435,"date":"2019-02-11T22:16:01","date_gmt":"2019-02-12T05:16:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.aspentimes.com\/news\/lift-one-for-aspen\/"},"modified":"2019-02-11T22:16:01","modified_gmt":"2019-02-12T05:16:01","slug":"lift-one-for-aspen","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/kspn\/local-news\/lift-one-for-aspen\/","title":{"rendered":"Lift One for Aspen"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">To all the whiners and naysayers about the Lift One plan, here are two scenarios that hinge on the upcoming vote:<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Scenario A (for Aspen), we vote &#8220;yes&#8221; and get:<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText ListBullet\">\u2022 A new lift that we can walk to<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText ListBullet\">\u2022 Two new lodges where lodging belongs at the base of Aspen Mountain<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText ListBullet\">\u2022 World Cup racing (for kids who grow up here, this is a big deal)<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText ListBullet\">\u2022 Great additions to our otherwise weak apres scene<\/p>\n<div id=\"single-mid-script\" class=\"p402_hide\">\n<h2>Recommended Stories For You<\/h2>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText ListBullet\">\u2022 Parks, open space, a corridor up the mountain<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText ListBullet\">\u2022 A ski history museum<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Scenario D (for &#8220;dumb&#8221;), we vote no and get:<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText ListBullet\">\u2022 Lift One Lodge (it&#8217;s already approved), but the lift can never come down<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText ListBullet\">\u2022 An empty monster mansion where Gorsuch Haus is planned (that&#8217;s allowed under so-called conservation zoning)<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText ListBullet\">\u2022 No new lift (remember how much it sucked when Lift 1A broke down for three weeks in 2016?)<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText ListBullet\">\u2022 No future World Cup racing<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">If you vote &#8220;no,&#8221; what kind of the legacy are you leaving for younger generations? Are you really against keeping Aspen a world-class and World Cup ski resort?<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">One last thought, Lindsey Vonn retired Sunday after an amazing career; she\u00b4s from Vail where the World Cup happens every year. If Aspen votes &#8220;no,&#8221; can we really keep bashing Vail?
