Abbott is among dozens of people who were charged Tuesday in a scheme in which wealthy parents allegedly bribed college coaches and other insiders to get their children into some of the nation&#8217;s most elite schools.<\/strong><br \/>AP Photo\/Bebeto Matthews<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>An Aspen couple are among the 50 people facing federal charges in the&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.denverpost.com\/2019\/03\/12\/felicity-huffman-lori-loughlin-college-bribery-scheme\/\" target=\"_blank\">nationwide college-admissions cheating scandal<\/a>&nbsp;that has ensnared Hollywood celebrities and corporate CEOs on both coasts.<\/p>\n<p>Gregory and Marcia Abbott \u2014 who, according to court documents, are residents of both Aspen and New York City \u2014 are accused in a federal indictment of paying $125,000 to boost their teenage daughter\u2019s scores on three standardized tests used for college admissions.<\/p>\n<p>A woman who answered a phone number listed for Marcia Abbott at the couple\u2019s Aspen address hung up Wednesday when asked about the allegations in the federal indictment.<\/p>\n<p>Gregory Abbott, who is the CEO of beverage packaging company International Dispensing Corp., appeared in federal court in New York on Tuesday and was released on $500,000 bond,&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/business\/the-latest-us-attorney-says-schools-not-involved-in-scam\/2019\/03\/12\/c0a3323e-44e2-11e9-94ab-d2dda3c0df52_story.html?utm_term=.d5a37f803c05\" target=\"_blank\">according to the Associated Press<\/a>. Marcia Abbott was believed to be in Colorado and hadn\u2019t made a court appearance as of Thursday morning.<\/p>\n<p>Both face charges of conspiracy to commit wire and mail fraud.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.denverpost.com\/2019\/03\/14\/college-bribery-scandal-colorado\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Read the full story from The Denver Post.
