The site revealed that all of users\u2019 media from Myspace\u2019s first 12 years of existence were erased in a server migration and cannot be retrieved.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a result of a server migration project, any photos, videos, and audio files you uploaded more than three years ago may no longer be available on or from Myspace,\u201d the site said (<a href=\"https:\/\/boingboing.net\/2019\/03\/17\/facebook-is-next.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">via Boing Boing<\/a>). \u201cWe apologize for the inconvenience and suggest that you retain your back up copies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/technology\/comments\/b2381s\/myspace_lost_all_music_uploaded_from_2003_to_2015\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Reddit thread<\/a> this weekend detailed the issue artists faced when aiming to retrieve the music they uploaded onto Myspace between 2003 and 2015. Last year, artists who visited the site realized their older songs were no longer playable. When asked about the issue, Myspace said they were looking into the problem.<\/p>\n<p>However, eight months ago, Myspace began informing users that the music \u2013 as well as photos and videos uploaded prior to 2015 \u2013 was lost in the server migration. \u201cThere is no way to recover them,\u201d Myspace admitted.<\/p>\n<p>Although a topic of conversation on Reddit, the issue reached a widespread audience this weekend when tech reporter Andy Baio tweeted about the lost songs:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"8.287037037037\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\" xml:lang=\"en\">Myspace accidentally lost all the music uploaded from its first 12 years in a server migration, losing over 50 million songs from 14 million artists. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/OyKB5Dxtw9\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">https:\/\/t.co\/OyKB5Dxtw9<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Andy Baio (@waxpancake) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/waxpancake\/status\/1107442118643994624?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">March 18, 2019<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Baio added of the mishap, \u201cI\u2019m deeply skeptical this was an accident.
