After guesting on the 2018 self-titled debut by San Diego punk-meets\u2013hip-hop duo Planet B<\/a>, Kool Keith<\/a> continues the collaboration on an upcoming EP under his own name.<\/p>\n

The release features two new tracks from the notoriously outlandish MC, \u201cBlast\u201d and \u201cUncrushable,\u201d along with an alternate version of each. The extras include Planet B\u2019s remix of \u201cBlast,\u201d as well as a mash-up of \u201cUncrushable\u201d and \u201cChurch of the Motherfuckers,\u201d a 2017 track from Dead Cross<\/a>, a spazzy hardcore supergroup featuring Faith No More vocalist Mike Patton, ex-Slayer drummer Dave Lombardo<\/a>, Planet B\u2019s Justin Pearson \u2014 who has also played in the Locust, Head Wound City and a slew of other outfits<\/a> \u2014 and guitarist Michael Crain, who works with Pearson in the band Retox.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m on all kinds of shit,\u201d Keith repeats over pulsating blasts of noise. He proceeds to unleash a stream of his patented X-rated putdowns. Around a minute in, the band comes roaring in at full blast, with Lombardo\u2019s rapid-fire double-kick drums and Patton\u2019s maniacal shrieks adding live-wire intensity. Crain\u2019s trilling guitar line contrasts perfectly with Keith\u2019s laid-back delivery.<\/p>\n

The Frankensteined track is the work of producer-beatmaker Luke Henshaw, Pearson\u2019s partner in Planet B.<\/p>\n

\u201cEveryone involved in this project seems like they are naturally into redefining genres,\u201d Henshaw writes in an e-mail. \u201cAs Keith politely put it when I discussed pairing him with Dead Cross he said, \u2018The weirder the better man, the weirder the better.’\u201d<\/p>\n

Dead Cross\u2019 vocalist also gave the project the thumbs-up. \u201cWhen I shared the idea and track with Patton, he said, \u2018I love Keith, so to me it is a no-brainer,’\u201d Pearson explains. \u201cI have to say that I feel the same way. As odd as it is, it seems like a perfect match of musical absurdity, which is something this world needs.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kool Keith\u2019s \u201cBlast\u201d b\/w \u201cUncrushable\u201d EP<\/a> is out March 29th from Pearson\u2019s Three One G label.<\/p>\n
