Rhonda Fields, D-Aurora, said. \u201cSo if we see someone that\u2019s in crisis and they\u2019ve had multiple contacts with the police department, and we know because they\u2019ve been to their home, we have a responsibility to do something.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The way an extreme risk protection order would work under this bill is that law enforcement, a family member or a household member could petition a judge for the removal of a person\u2019s firearms. The judge would hold a hearing \u2014 without the gun owner being present \u2014 to decide whether to grant a temporary order for up to 14 days.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.denverpost.com\/2019\/03\/28\/colorado-senate-passes-red-flag-gun-bill\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Read the full story from The Denver Post.
