He excelled in his career with Hayes Albion Corporation, Jackson, MI to become President and CEO in 1982.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">John\u2019s civic contributions included Chairman Jackson Co. United Way; Jackson School Board; Pres. Board Country Club of Jackson; Member Lion\u2019s Club; Board of Directors: Lefere Forge Co. and Comerica Bank of Jackson.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">John was an avid golfer and outdoor enthusiast. He hiked the Applachian Trail from Georgia to Mt. Katadin, Maine; the Colorado Trail from Durango to Denver where he worked on several trail crews; South Island of New Zealand; Washakie Wilderness outside of Cody, Wyoming; Alaska; Isle Royale; and numerous trails in the Roaring Fork Valley.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">He and his wife Lucylee, while residing at Lake LeAnn in MI, enjoyed skiing, an interest which brought them to Aspen where they have maintained a residence in Snowmass and later Basalt, CO for nearly 40 years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">John is survived by his loving family: Brother, Justin Whiting, Vero Beach, Fla.; Wife Lucylee; His three sons: John Jr. Haslett, MI; Jeffrey (Cindee), Park City, Utah; William (Kathy), Jackson, MI, 4 grandsons, and 3 great grandsons.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">John was a talented storyteller and brought joy and laughter to many over the years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at St. Paul\u2019s Episcopal Church, Jackson MI at a later date.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Donations may be made in his name to the Evans Scholars Foundation, PO Box 301, Golf, Ill, 60029, or to the Ella Sharp Museum of Art and History, 3225 4th St., Jackson MI, 49203, or to a charity of your choice.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.aspentimes.com\/news\/john-whiting\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">via:: The Aspen Times<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>John Whiting, 90, passed away peacefully at home in Basalt, CO with family at his side and in the loving competent care of Our Nurses staff, Basalt, CO.
