The audience immediately got to its feet as green lights washed the Barclays Center and Joe Elliott sang \u201cI gotta know tonight \u2026 How \u2018bout you, Brooklyn?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The words \u201cgunter glieben glauchen globen\u201d introduced the next song. Joe Elliott asked, \u201cWhat do you want? I want rock &amp; roll,\u201d as Def Leppard played the titanic riffs of <em>Pyromania\u2019s<\/em> \u201cRock of Ages.\u201d F<span>or all Def Leppard\u2019s stadium-ready brute force, they also have a knack for melody, which was fully on display during the sweet call-and-response hook to \u201cPhotograph.\u201d<\/span> Even people at the expensive tables had their hands in the air for the chorus, leading to a larger-than-life, drum-rolling ending.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGood people out there, are you ready for some audience participation!\u201d Elliott asked the crowd before the final song and the words: \u201cStep inside, walk this way\u201d rang out. The floor of the arena was littered with cell phones in the air and the cheap seats was filled with fist-banging choreography as the band aged \u201cPour Some Sugar on Me.\u201d When it was done, Elliott through his hands in the air, and they left the stage.<\/p>\n<p><span>Def Leppard were savvy about their song selection, playing four of their biggest hits in the U.S. \u201cPhotograph\u201d and \u201cRock of Ages\u201d both reached the Top 20 in 1983, while \u201cHysteria\u201d and \u201cPour Some Sugar on Me\u201d followed suit in 1988.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Def Leppard were eligible for over a decade before they appeared on the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ballot; they won entry on the first try. \u201c<\/span><span>Now we can stop holding our breath and go, \u2018Great! How wonderful to be in the same club as the Rolling Stones and the Beatles and the Who and Queen,&#8217;\u201d lead singer Joe Elliott <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/def-leppard-joe-elliott-rock-and-roll-hall-of-fame-interview-768314\/\">told<\/a><\/span> <em><span>Rolling Stone<\/span><\/em><span>. \u201cIt\u2019s nice. It\u2019s a good club to be in.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>But if anything, Elliott was even more excited by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame\u2019s decision to induct another band \u2014 namely Roxy Music. \u201cI\u2019m ecstatic that Roxy Music are in,\u201d the singer explained. \u201cMany Americans probably didn\u2019t know much about Roxy Music until<\/span> <em><span>Avalon<\/span><\/em> <span>[in 1982], but the truth is in 1972 when they put out \u2018Virginia Plain,&#8217;\u201d between them and David Bowie they instantly, overnight changed the face of pop music.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Elliott added, \u201cIt\u2019s almost like there should be a sub-ceremony for the British Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in London that can acknowledge bands that did something over here and didn\u2019t necessarily make a big impact in America.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/def-leppard-rock-hall-815320\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">via:: Rolling Stone<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Def Leppard played a series of scalding Eighties hits during their set at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony at Brooklyn\u2019s Barclays Center on Friday night.
