Shortly after Britney Spears<\/a> wrote on Instagram<\/a> that she needed to take \u201ca little \u2018me time’\u201d \u2013 the singer\u2019s first social media post in nearly three months \u2013 news emerged that Spears recently entered a mental health facility.<\/p>\n

According to the report, first reported by TMZ<\/a> and confirmed by Variety<\/em><\/a>, the continued health problems faced by her father Jamie Spears has taken its toll on Britney, who was suffering from emotional distress.<\/p>\n

In January, Spears postponed<\/a> her Las Vegas residency following her father\u2019s life-threatening ordeal; the singer revealed in a statement that two months earlier, Jamie\u2019s colon \u201cspontaneously ruptured,\u201d resulting in emergency surgery and a 28-day hospital stay.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s important to always put your family first\u2026 and that\u2019s the decision I had to make,\u201d Spears said at the time. \u201cA couple of months ago, my father was hospitalized and almost died. We\u2019re all so grateful that he came out of it alive, but he still has a long road ahead of him. I had to make the difficult decision to put my full focus and energy on my family at this time.\u201d<\/p>\n

However, a source told People<\/em><\/a> Wednesday, \u201cHer dad being sick has taken a toll on her. He nearly died and actually had another surgery a few weeks ago. He\u2019s not doing well. They\u2019re so close and it has been a lot. There is nothing dramatic going on with her \u2014 she just realized she needs to make sure to take time to care for herself.\u201d<\/p>\n

Representatives did not respond to Rolling Stone<\/em>\u2018s request for comment.<\/p>\n

TMZ added that Spears checked herself into the unnamed facility about a week ago and will spend 30 days there.<\/p>\n
