{"id":2442743,"date":"2019-04-09T12:12:34","date_gmt":"2019-04-09T18:12:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/?p=820151"},"modified":"2019-04-09T12:12:34","modified_gmt":"2019-04-09T18:12:34","slug":"neil-young-and-crazy-horse-to-record-new-album","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/kspn\/music-news\/neil-young-and-crazy-horse-to-record-new-album\/","title":{"rendered":"Neil Young and Crazy Horse to Record New Album"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/neil-young-crazy-horse-new-album.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/neil-young\/\" id=\"auto-tag_neil-young\" data-tag=\"neil-young\">Neil Young<\/a> and Crazy Horse are going to enter the studio in the near future and record their first new album since 2012\u2019s <em>Psychedelic Pill.<\/em> Young confirmed the news on his <a href=\"https:\/\/neilyoungarchives.com\/#\/news\/2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Neil Young Archives website<\/a> in a response to a reader\u2019s letter asking about his future recording plans. \u201cCrazy Horse is about to enter the studio with 11 new ones,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Neil Young revived Crazy Horse last year for a series of low-profile theater gigs in California. They were the first performances by the group without guitarist Frank \u201cPoncho\u201d Sampedro since he joined in 1975. \u201cI\u2019m 70 and I\u2019m retired now and want to stay home,\u201d Sampedro recently told <em>Uncut.<\/em> \u201cPeople say, \u2018Isn\u2019t it sad you\u2019re not in Crazy Horse?\u2019 I don\u2019t think of it that way. I\u2019ll always be in Crazy Horse. I\u2019m as big a part of Crazy Horse as anyone that\u2019s ever been in it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" type=\"text\/html\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/nsOWlxLmNKg?version=3&amp;enablejsapi=1&amp;origin=https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com&amp;rel=1&amp;fs=1&amp;autohide=2&amp;showsearch=0&amp;showinfo=1&amp;iv_load_policy=1&amp;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\">[embedded content]<\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Sampedro was replaced by Nils Lofgren, who recorded with Crazy Horse on a 1971 album they recorded without Neil Young. He also played with Young and the Crazy Horse rhythm section of Ralph Molina and Billy Talbot on <em>Tonight\u2019s The Night<\/em> and the supporting tour in 1973. \u201cIt\u2019s been a beautiful opportunity to play with dear friends that are still alive and well,\u201d Lofgren <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-features\/nils-lofgren-interview-neil-young-crazy-horse-813235\/\">recently told <em>Rolling Stone<\/em>.<\/a> \u201cLook, I hope there\u2019s more, but I\u2019ll take it a gig at a time right now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Young didn\u2019t give an exact timeline for the making of the album, though Lofgren is launching a U.S. tour in early May that will keep him on the road for a month. Young has his own tour in own tour in May that will see him play theaters in the Pacific Northwest. He\u2019s playing solo acoustic some nights and with Promise of the Real on other nights.
