2000 by John Wood, Room to Read is a leading nonprofit dedicated to improving literacy and gender equality in education in the developing world. Over the past two decades, it’s grown from its headquarters in San Francisco to also encompass all-volunteer fundraising chapters all over the globe.

On a sunny spring afternoon in late March, the Room to Read Aspen chapter hosted an après-ski reception at Betula, spilling out from the lounge to its sublime outdoor patio with the stunning backdrop of Aspen Mountain.

Susan Lodge, who founded the Aspen chapter more than a decade ago, welcomed Brittany Van Domelen as the new chapter leader. Both shared their vision and belief that education is key to breaking the cycle of poverty and that Room to Read offers this support in the name of girls’ education. Since Wood started the organization, Room to Read has impacted more than 10 million children in Asia and Africa by building schools and libraries, funding scholarships, publishing books in multiple languages and distributing them around the world.

Guests enjoyed learning about the program’s successes and goals while socializing with one another. They also had the opportunity to pledge donations to the cause and earn an entry in the raffle for fabulous prizes from O2 Aspen, Matsuhisa, Remede Spa and Betula.

To learn more about volunteering with the Aspen chapter and helping further Room to Read’s mission while developing new skills and connecting with like-minded individuals, visit http://www.roomtoread.org.

via:: The Aspen Times

Room to Read leaders Susan Lodge, who founded the Aspen chapter, and Brittany Van Domelen, who is taking the reigns.May Selby Kate Holstein, Rachel Gildor and Kim Edwards.May Selby Courtney Sheeley Wyckoff and Rachel Hansen.May Selby Rebecca Mirsky with Tess Strokes and Christine Benedetti.May Selby Brigid Brumby with Nic Caiano.May Selby Tanner and Sydney Kirsch.May […]

[49

0":"post-2442820","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","6":"category-local-news
"publishpress_future_workflow_manual_trigger":
["GET
