{"id":2442925,"date":"2019-04-13T07:02:54","date_gmt":"2019-04-13T13:02:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/?p=821936"},"modified":"2019-04-13T07:02:54","modified_gmt":"2019-04-13T13:02:54","slug":"deborah-dugan-to-succeed-neil-portnow-as-recording-academy-president","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/kspn\/music-news\/deborah-dugan-to-succeed-neil-portnow-as-recording-academy-president\/","title":{"rendered":"Deborah Dugan to Succeed Neil Portnow as Recording Academy President"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/9197572i.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p>Nearly a year after Neil Portnow announced he would <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/recording-academy-president-neil-portnow-will-step-down-628059\/\">step down<\/a> as president and CEO of the Recording Academy, his replacement has been revealed: Deborah Dugan, the CEO of the nonprofit AIDS organization (RED), will succeed the outgoing president, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/articles\/business\/8506967\/deborah-dugan-succeed-neil-portnow-recording-academy-president-ceo\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Billboard<\/em> reports<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Portnow, who spent 17 years at the helm of the Recording Academy and the Grammys, said in May 2018 that he would leave the organization when his contract expired in July 2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I had the honor of being selected to lead this great organization in 2002, I vowed that on my watch, for the first time in our history, we would have a thoughtful, well-planned and collegial transition,\u201d Portnow said in a statement at the time. \u201cWith a little more than a year remaining on my current contract, I\u2019ve decided that this is an appropriate time to deliver on that promise.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>Billboard<\/em> reports that Dugan, who worked at Disney Publishing and EMI\/Capitol Records prior to (RED), recently received the majority of votes at a Recording Academy board meeting to become the organization\u2019s president and CEO, the first time in the Recording Academy\u2019s history that a woman has permanently held that role.
