Bruce Springsteen<\/a> has kept an extremely low profile since wrapping up Springsteen on Broadway<\/em><\/a> four months ago, but he reemerged Saturday night for a surprise two-song performance with Danny Clinch\u2019s Tangiers Blues Band at the annual Kristen Ann Carr Benefit, which took place at New York\u2019s Tribeca Grill. They played \u201cRockin\u2019 Pneumonia and the Boogie Woogie Flu\u201d and \u201cDown the Road Apiece.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Kristen Ann Carr Benefit \u2013 which raises money to fight sarcoma cancers \u2013 honors a different person each year who has aided in their cause. (It was named after the late daughter of Springsteen\u2019s co-manager Barbara Carr.) This year they shined the spotlight on photographer Danny Clinch. His band was on the bill at the event, and since they\u2019ve jammed with Springsteen on many occasions, it was no huge surprise when Springsteen came out during their performance. \u201cRockin\u2019 Pneumonia and the Boogie Woogie Flu\u201d and \u201cDown the Road Apiece\u201d were both in their set at the opening of the Asbury Lanes<\/a> bowling alley\/concert venue in June 2018.<\/p>\n

Springsteen has ruled out touring with the E Street Band this year, but has said several times that he has a new solo album in the works. \u201cReally, that record is influenced by Southern California pop music of the \u201970s,\u201d he told Variety<\/em> late last year.<\/a> \u201cGlen Campbell, Jimmy Webb, Burt Bacharach, those kinds of records\u2026It\u2019s a singer-songwriter record. It\u2019s connected to my solo records writing-wise, more Tunnel of Love<\/em> and Devils and Dust,<\/em> but it\u2019s not like them at all. Just different characters living their lives.\u201d<\/p>\n
