I assume they were burning weeds when the afternoon winds kicked up.<\/p>\n<p>Posted by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/Outside-Adventure-Media-406952729399751\/\">Outside Adventure Media<\/a> on Thursday, April 25, 2019<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><figcaption>Courtesy Outside Adventure Media<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Winds that kicked up Thursday afternoon caused a controlled burn in a ditch on Pitkin County open space to char about a half-acre of land, according to Roaring Fork Fire Rescue officials.<\/p>\n<p>The burn flared up about 2:30 p.m. off Hooks Spur Road on the Parker Ranch west of Willits, Deputy Fire Chief Pete Bradshaw said Thursday afternoon. He said there were no injuries and no structures were threatened.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey were doing everything right but the wind kind of surprised them,\u201d Bradshaw said.<\/p>\n<p>Four engines and about 16 firefighters responded to the call, and they were on scene until about 4:45 p.m., he said.<\/p>\n<p>He added that even though it is early in the season and we had a lot of snow, the conditions are \u201cjust dry enough that we can get fires like this.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.aspentimes.com\/news\/controlled-burn-near-willits-jumps-ditch-chars-half-acre-of-open-space\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">via:: The Aspen Times<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>April 25 Brush Fire Basalt Fire Department responds to a brush fire west of Willits Town Center on April 25.
