Every year, outdoor adventure and filmmaking enthusiasts converge on Carbondale for the annual 5Point Film Festival.<\/p>\n
\u201c5Point is the second biggest public event we have in Carbondale,\u201d 5Point publicist Sarah-Jane Johnson said. \u201cIt has a significant impact of the community economically. They take a lot of pride in the event.\u201d<\/p>\n
In its 12th year, the festival has grown beyond the traditional film festival model.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis event that sells out, the film festival itself for Thursday, Friday and Saturday are always gone by the weekend before,\u201d Johnson added.<\/p>\n
For those who didn\u2019t get tickets to the festival, there are a lot opportunities with fringe events going on around the festival over the weekend.<\/p>\n
There will be several family-friendly programs during the festival.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have the youth adventure program on Saturday,\u201d Johnson said. \u201cIt\u2019s a great way for kids to be involved in 5Point. The program inspires kids to get involved into the world of outdoor adventure and filmmaking.\u201d<\/p>\n
Other events will include choose-your-own-adventure Saturday, where festival attendees can participate in and alongside some of the film-makers and guest stars of the films.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere\u2019s different parties going on every night during 5Point weekend, with fun things for people to participate in,\u201d Johnson said.<\/p>\n
The festival concludes Sunday with the last film program.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have three different things happening, including Changemakers, a feature film program with a guest appearance by star Eric Weihenmayer, and a special announcement,\u201d Johnson added.<\/p>\n
