Britney Spears<\/a> appeared in a Los Angeles courtroom with both her parents Friday to speak to the judge overseeing the singer\u2019s decade-long conservatorship.<\/p>\n

Judge Brenda Penny cleared out her courtroom prior to the hearing so that only Spears, her mother Lynne and her father Jamie \u2013 also Britney\u2019s conservator \u2013 and their lawyers were in attendance; Britney was ushered through the courthouse\u2019s backdoor to avoid paparazzi, but still encountered some #FreeBritney supporters<\/a>, People<\/em> reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n

While the details of the court hearing are unknown, the judge ordered Spears to undergo a 730 expert evaluation, a competence examination usually issued for children in divorce cases, both ABC News<\/a> and the Associated Press<\/em> report<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The next hearing in Spears\u2019 conservatorship was scheduled for September 18th, a court date that the singer will not need to attend.<\/p>\n

In recent months, Jamie Spears\u2019 conservatorship of his daughter \u2013 which began in 2008 following the singer\u2019s public meltdown and gives him control of nearly all of the singer\u2019s business and personal affairs \u2013 has come under public scrutiny<\/a>, with Spears herself hinting<\/a> about a release from the arrangement in social media posts.<\/p>\n

Lynne Spears, who divorced from Jamie in 2002, has sought to take a more active role in Britney\u2019s life following the singer\u2019s month-long stay<\/a> in a mental health facility.<\/p>\n

\u201cBritney is still adjusting to medications,\u201d a source told People<\/em> of the situation. \u201cIt\u2019s a difficult situation for her and Lynne is in L.A. to help. Lynne wants to be more involved in Britney\u2019s care because she is her mom. If there is something more they can do for Britney, Lynne wants to make sure Britney gets that help.\u201d<\/p>\n
