If the note implies that the person has a weapon, then the crime is considered an armed robbery.<\/p>\n<p>After the suspect \u2014 a white female in her mid-30s \u2014 made off with an undisclosed sum of money, the sheriff\u2019s department posted pictures and a description online, writing \u201cThere may be multiple suspects in this incident. More information will be provided as information is received.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>No more information has been made public about additional suspects at this time, but on Thursday, Detective Aaron Veldheer said the department has been working through all sorts of leads, many stemming from comments made on social media about the bank robbery.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re clearing one innocent person at a time,\u201d Veldheer said.<\/p>\n<h2>Not uncommon<\/h2>\n<p>In 2019, leads for crimes are often generated from social media posts.<\/p>\n<p>While often times an abundance of information from sites such as Facebook and Twitter can put an extra burden on detectives working the case, those same sites have aided in old-fashioned police work and have helped solve crimes,&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sheltonherald.com\/64743\/police-say-social-media-helped-catch-shelton-man-charged-with-robbing-bank\/\" target=\"_blank\">including bank robberies,<\/a>&nbsp;in recent years.<\/p>\n<p>The Eagle County Sheriff\u2019s Department\u2019s May 1 post drew comments that were overt leads, including \u201cLooks like a woman that works or has been to the Gypsum Creek Golf Course \u2014 I recommend inquiring with the manager there,\u201d and \u201cWe\u2019ve had a lady hanging at hwy 6 store for past week, she didn\u2019t come this morning.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>One person even claimed to know the robber, writing \u201cI go to class with her.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.aspentimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2019\/05\/Screen-Shot-2019-05-09-at-7.43.35-PM.png\" alt class=\"wp-image-305649\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cdn.aspentimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2019\/05\/Screen-Shot-2019-05-09-at-7.43.35-PM.png 362w, https:\/\/cdn.aspentimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2019\/05\/Screen-Shot-2019-05-09-at-7.43.35-PM-300x155.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 362px) 100vw, 362px\"><figcaption>Screen-Shot-2019-05-09-at-7.43.35-PM<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In another exchange, a person claiming to be the bank teller said the note technique was indeed used in the robbery.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI hope no one is ever in that position,\u201d the person wrote.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.aspentimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2019\/05\/Screen-Shot-2019-05-09-at-12.51.23-PM.png\" alt class=\"wp-image-305650\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cdn.aspentimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2019\/05\/Screen-Shot-2019-05-09-at-12.51.23-PM.png 397w, https:\/\/cdn.aspentimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2019\/05\/Screen-Shot-2019-05-09-at-12.51.23-PM-253x300.png 253w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 397px) 100vw, 397px\"><figcaption>Screen-Shot-2019-05-09-at-12.51.23-PM<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>Note job<\/h2>\n<p>Many people commenting pointed out that the images of the suspect weren\u2019t very clear.<\/p>\n<p>One person said it appeared that the suspect is wearing a \u201cLake Placid\u201d hooded sweatshirt.<\/p>\n<p>Others pointed out the passive nature of using a note to commit an armed robbery. It\u2019s a topic explored in the U.S. Department of Justice Office of Community Oriented Policing Services 2007 paper&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/popcenter.org\/sites\/default\/files\/sites\/default\/files\/problems\/pdfs\/bank_robbery.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cBank Robbery,\u201d by Deborah Lamm Weisel.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>During a robbery, writes Weisel, most banks \u2014 consistent with police advice \u2014 direct employees to comply quickly with robbers\u2019 demands.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTellers willingly empty their cash drawers when presented with a simple robbery demand note, whether or not violence is threatened or a weapon is displayed,\u201d writes Weisel. \u201cThe bank\u2019s primary objective is to protect the safety and security of its employees and customers by reducing<br \/>the likelihood of violence \u2026 Robbers often wait in the teller\u2019s line with legitimate customers and pass a demand note to the teller.
