{"id":2444076,"date":"2019-05-11T13:23:07","date_gmt":"2019-05-11T19:23:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.aspentimes.com\/?p=305699"},"modified":"2019-05-11T13:23:07","modified_gmt":"2019-05-11T19:23:07","slug":"giant-rock-shuts-down-highway-133-south-of-carbondale-in-crystal-valley","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/kspn\/local-news\/giant-rock-shuts-down-highway-133-south-of-carbondale-in-crystal-valley\/","title":{"rendered":"Giant rock shuts down Highway 133 south of Carbondale in Crystal Valley"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Rockfall in the Crystal Valley on Saturday morning has closed Highway 133 south of Carbondale and there is no estimated time for the road to reopen, according to the Pitkin County officials.<\/p>\n<p>A large rock is blocking both lanes about six miles south of Carbondale (mile marker 63), according to Pitkin County Sheriff\u2019s Deputy Monique Merritt who was on scene Saturday afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>There is no expected time for the road to open and Colorado Department of Transportation officials and engineers are at the scene assessing how to best to remove the giant rock.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe highway will be closed for an unknown amount of time,\u201d said the alert, which was sent just before noon. \u201cPlease stay away from the area due to more&nbsp; rock falls anticipated.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>There are no reports or injuries or damage to any vehicles.<\/p>\n<p>Merritt said the rockfall happened near the Nettle Creek bridge, and the rock is completely blocking the road.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne person said it was bigger than a Suburban, but a couple of fire guys came back and said it was much bigger and completely blocking both lanes,\u201d Merritt said.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.aspentimes.com\/news\/giant-rock-shuts-down-highway-133-south-of-carbondale-in-crystal-valley\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">via:: The Aspen Times<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Rockfall in the Crystal Valley on Saturday morning has closed Highway 133 south of Carbondale and there is no estimated time for the road to reopen, according to the Pitkin County officials.
