Richardson\/The Denver Post<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.denverpost.com\/2019\/05\/12\/avalanches-rocky-mountain-national-park-saturday\/\" target=\"_blank\">avalanches at Rocky Mountain National Park on Saturday<\/a>&nbsp;were triggered by humans, park officials said Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Seven people were caught in the avalanche activity above Emerald Lake, but did not suffer serious injuries.<\/p>\n<p>The avalanches occurred in steep terrain, and though the danger rating was \u201cmoderate,\u201d the conditions increased the avalanche activity, spokeswoman Kyle Patterson said in a statement. Those conditions included the prior week\u2019s snowfall, wind slab formation and warming temperatures, she said.<\/p>\n<p>Visitors underestimated the conditions, Patterson said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is important for those who recreate in the backcountry to be knowledgeable concerning safe travel in avalanche terrain. These users should also practice good situational awareness and decision-making and be aware there may be other users above or below them,\u201d she said in the statement.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.denverpost.com\/2019\/05\/14\/rocky-mountain-national-park-avalanche-activity-human-triggered\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Read the full story from The Denver Post.
