{"id":2444236,"date":"2019-05-15T20:41:56","date_gmt":"2019-05-16T02:41:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/?p=836026"},"modified":"2019-05-15T20:41:56","modified_gmt":"2019-05-16T02:41:56","slug":"hear-pj-harveys-harrowing-new-song-the-crowded-cell","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/kspn\/music-news\/hear-pj-harveys-harrowing-new-song-the-crowded-cell\/","title":{"rendered":"Hear PJ Harvey\u2019s Harrowing New Song \u2018The Crowded Cell\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/9228761h.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/pj-harvey\/\" id=\"auto-tag_pj-harvey\" data-tag=\"pj-harvey\">PJ Harvey<\/a> has unveiled her new song, \u201cThe Crowded Cell.\u201d The song is from the score the singer penned for all four-parts of Shane Meadows\u2019 new drama series, <em>The Virtues<\/em>, which is currently airing on the UK\u2019s Channel 4.<\/p>\n<p>On the harrowing song, Harvey sings over an unrelenting rhythm and melody that drive the harrowing themes of inescapable imprisonment, whether physical or the kind that perpetually haunt the mind. \u201cYou will see us again\/You will remember this,\u201d she forebodingly sings before detailing physical abuse. \u201cThey tied me up with ropes\/They beat my legs with sticks\/I cannot use my legs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The song closes out each of the four episodes. Harvey said that the demos for the songs she culled for the series are what appear in the show.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am so happy to have provided the original music for this extraordinary and powerful new drama by a director I have admired and followed all my life,\u201d she said in a statement. \u201cShane has a unique directness and sensitivity to his work, which I am drawn to and aspire to in my own work, so our collaboration was open and trusting. I sent Shane ideas as demos for him to try out as he edited and let him choose what he used and where to the greatest effect.
