On Friday, she shifted into upbeat power pop with the release of the new song \u201cYellow Cloud,\u201d the video for which premieres on <em>Rolling Stone<\/em> today.<\/p>\n<p><em>Two Birds<\/em> and <em>One Stone<\/em> \u201cfelt like an ending,\u201d writes Trixie Mattel via email, but breaking out an electric guitar also felt like a logical next step for her musical career.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy love for Sixties country music ushered me right into this new plugged-in radio sound,\u201d she says. \u201cListening to a lot of Fountains of Wayne and Apples in Stereo. Collecting mod Barbie dolls and watching <em>Brady Brunch<\/em> reruns!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>True to her word, Trixie Mattel\u2019s \u201cYellow Cloud\u201d leaps forth with bright strums of electric guitar, vintage garage-rock organ flourishes and instantly hummable, wordless melodies that recall peak period New Pornographers. The song, which she began playing during her live appearances last year, imagines the creation of a perfect world with that perfect someone. \u201cAcross a table at a French place\/I\u2019d lose my way into the wine\/With your glasses on your pretty face\/We can go up, baby we can float up,\u201d she sings.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was missing my boyfriend but making more money,\u201d says Trixie Mattel. \u201cSo the song is a daydream about buying a house and living like \u2018Somewhere That\u2019s Green\u2019 from <em>Little Shop of Horrors<\/em> \u2014 brand new plastic furniture and mowing a fake lawn.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The song comes bundled with a delightfully weird and colorful video that\u2019s equal parts <em>Pee-wee\u2019s Playhouse<\/em>, the Muppets and budget infomercial. Directed by Brad Hammer, the clip stars fellow <em>Drag Race<\/em> alums Tammie Brown and Thorgy Thor, along with comedienne Deven Green.
