{"id":2444341,"date":"2019-05-17T14:54:03","date_gmt":"2019-05-17T20:54:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/?p=835778"},"modified":"2019-05-17T14:54:03","modified_gmt":"2019-05-17T20:54:03","slug":"how-i-wrote-this-ajr-break-down-their-single-100-bad-days","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/kspn\/music-news\/how-i-wrote-this-ajr-break-down-their-single-100-bad-days\/","title":{"rendered":"How I Wrote This: AJR Break Down Their Single \u2018100 Bad Days\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/HIWT_AJR_100BadDays_v2.00_07_28_11.Still001.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p>AJR\u2019s new single \u201c100 Bad Days\u201d began when frontman Jack Met entered a single line into his cellphone: \u201cA million bad days made a million good stories.\u201d \u201cI didn\u2019t even think of it as a song concept,\u201d the singer tells <em>Rolling Stone<\/em>. \u201cI just thought, \u2018That\u2019s kind of a cool thought.\u2019\u201d That one thought soon morphed into an entire song about turning bad times into something glorious, the Met brothers tell <em>Rolling Stone.<\/em> Though, the \u201cmillion bad days\u201d was ultimately downgraded to 100.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe figured out how to twist it into a more unique idea then, \u2018What doesn\u2019t kill you makes you stronger,\u2019 which has been done a bajillion times,\u2019\u201d says AJR keyboardist Ryan Met. \u201cWe thought, \u2018What\u2019s a more realistic, relatable way to talk on that concept?\u2019 We came up with this idea of, \u2018What doesn\u2019t kill you actually makes you more interesting and it gives you good stories to tell people and at the end of the day, that\u2019s the most fun thing to do.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As they\u2019ve done from the very beginning, the Met brothers recorded the song in the living room of their Chelsea apartment using little more than a computer, piano, guitar and bass, though their video game console in the other room plays no small role in their creative process.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe most successful songs we\u2019ve written have come from doing doing one very specific thing and it\u2019s going in there and playing Wii Tennis,\u201d says Jack Met. \u201cAnd then we just kind of talk. Half of our brain is focused on winning the game and the other half is focused on kind of shouting out what randomly comes to our mind in our subconscious. Twenty minutes of that we come up with a great new idea and we run out and record it.
