On his new album <em>Africa Speaks<\/em>, (out June 7<sup>th<\/sup>) the guitarist went in a wildly different direction, recording with an eight piece band \u2013 including vocals of Afro-Latin singer Buika and Santana\u2019s wife Cindy Blackman on drums \u2013 with Rick Rubin over ten days at Rubin\u2019s Shangri La Studios in Malibu.<\/p>\n<p>They recorded 49 songs in 10 days \u2013 \u201ckiller, African, dynamic, vibrant, filled with exuberance,\u201d Santana <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=J5OspxMTwis\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">said<\/a> of the music in an album trailer. \u201cIt feels like this was meant to be \u2026 like a gift from heaven to receive and give to the masses.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Santana\u2019s new track \u201cYo Me Lo Merezco\u201d is an example of that sound \u2013 a track that starts out with a hypnotic groove and soulful vocals from Buika before turning into an explosive jam.<\/p>\n<p>Santana is currently <a href=\"https:\/\/tour.santana.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">on the road,<\/a> playing an intimate residency in Vegas before the <em>Supernatural Now&nbsp;<\/em>tour, marking the 20<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary of his massive album. The tour hits arenas and amphitheaters all summer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor us music is not a profession, it\u2019s a way of life,\u201d Santana said recently. \u201cIt\u2019s not a job. We play music as natural as the rain.
