Rihanna<\/a> is indeed working on a reggae<\/a> album, according to an interview with T magazine.<\/em><\/a> The singer hinted at releasing an album influenced by her Caribbean roots to Vogue<\/em><\/a> nearly a year ago, and eight sources confirmed this to Rolling Stone<\/em><\/a> last July. \u201c[Rihanna\u2019s team] have, no lie, 500 records for this project [from] different producers and writers,\u201d said an anonymous producer. \u201cThey\u2019re only choosing 10 records. They\u2019ve been having writing camps and trying to keep them quiet for almost a year and a half now.\u201d<\/p>\n

Though the album release date remains unclear, the singer joked that it will probably be titled \u201cR9,\u201d a name her fan base the Navy has given it since it will be her ninth studio album. \u201cI\u2019m about to call it that probably, \u2019cause they have haunted me with this \u2018R9, R9, when is R9 coming out?’\u201d she said. \u201cHow will I accept another name after that\u2019s been burned into my skull?\u201d<\/p>\n

Rihanna denied rumors that she\u2019s working with Lady Gaga<\/a>, but said she is open to collaborating. \u201cMaybe because she followed me on Instagram \u2026 It\u2019s not in the books right now, but I\u2019m not against it.\u201d One thing is for certain, though: she will not<\/em> be collaborating with Drake. \u201cNot on this album, that\u2019s for sure,\u201d the singer said.<\/p>\n

Rihanna\u2019s return to music follows an historic benchmark in her other area of expertise: fashion. Her company Fenty<\/a> will launch as an LVMH luxury brand on May 29th, making Rihanna the first black woman in charge of a major luxury fashion house in Paris. She wasn\u2019t even aware of this fact until her style director Jahleel Weaver pointed it out to her. \u201cI\u2019m like, \u2018Are you sure about that? Did you do your research? \u2019Cause I don\u2019t wanna state a claim that\u2019s [expletive],’\u201d she said. \u201cBecause I still couldn\u2019t believe it. It made me feel proud.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fenty will distribute its clothing fully online. \u201cI hate seeing something on the runway and then having to wait six months for it,\u201d the singer said. This pivot towards fashion comes after Rihanna launched her own makeup line in 2017.  \u201cI used to be afraid to step into the whole celebrity makeup world,\u201d she said. \u201cI saw brands like Hilary Duff and Hannah Montana23 have so much success [in the aughts], but it got to a place where they were so oversaturated in the market that it diluted their personal brands.\u201d<\/p>\n

Because of this, Rihanna used the name Fenty as a way to separate it from her music. \u201cI used Fenty so that you didn\u2019t have to hear the word \u2018Rihanna\u2019 every time you saw something that I did,\u201d she said. \u201cSo Rihanna stayed [with] the music, the person. But these other brands are called Fenty.\u201d<\/p>\n
