Adding to the fray is a new item from Vetements, an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mrporter.com\/en-us\/mens\/product\/vetements\/oversized-printed-cotton-jersey-t-shirt\/1189580?resType=single&amp;keywords=corporate&amp;keywords=Corporate\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cOversized Printed Cotton-Jersey T-Shirt\u201d<\/a> that rips off the one <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/kurt-cobain\/\" id=\"auto-tag_kurt-cobain\" data-tag=\"kurt-cobain\">Kurt Cobain<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/i.pinimg.com\/originals\/a6\/a1\/81\/a6a181681db9ed6329e22a50f384f5b9.jpg\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">wore on the cover of&nbsp;<em>Rolling Stone<\/em> in 1992<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCorporate magazines still suck A LOT!\u201d the $550 item of clothing screams, its tone escalated by the anarchist symbol printed in the phrase \u201cA LOT!\u201d, itself an addition that never appeared on Cobain\u2019s original T-shirt.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_838827\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\" readability=\"30.375\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-838827\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-838827\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Nirvana-cover.jpg?w=250\" alt width=\"250\" height=\"300\"><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-838827\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/nirvana\/\" id=\"auto-tag_nirvana\" data-tag=\"nirvana\">Nirvana<\/a> on the April 16th, 1992 cover of \u2018Rolling Stone.\u2019 Photograph by Mark Seliger<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cIn 1992, it was Mr. Kurt Cobain\u2019s way to thumb his nose at the establishment from the cover of <em>Rolling Stone<\/em> \u2013 \u2018Corporate magazines still suck\u2019 \u2013 and in 2019 it\u2019s Mr Demna Gvasalia\u2019s way of doing the same from the&nbsp;Vetements runway,\u201d reads the editor\u2019s notes. \u201cThis cotton-jersey T-shirt features the statement with an addition of an anarchist symbol, and was included in the \u2018Anti-Social\u2019 portion of the show.\u201d (If you\u2019re wondering, the shirt fits into the theme of Vetements\u2019 Anti-Social fall\/winter 2019 collection by equating anti-social behavior with, erm, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nssmag.com\/en\/fashion\/17403\/riflessione-sulla-sfilata-di-vetements-fw19\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">government surveillance and the Dark Web<\/a>. And yet none of the models wore Anonymous Guy Fawkes masks.)<\/p>\n<p>Not to parrot what smarter fashion writers have pointed out about, say, <a href=\"https:\/\/themuse.jezebel.com\/what-is-high-fashions-political-point-1792298875\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Dior slapping \u201cWe Should All Be Feminists\u201d on a $850 tee<\/a>, but Vetements turning Cobain\u2019s political demonstration into a product both naively misses the point and savvily meets a corporate bottom line. The company is looking to make bank, not change, whether performatively or not; if it were really preoccupied with activism, it\u2019d be addressing the widespread internal problems within the industry, like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.teenvogue.com\/story\/livia-firth-fashion-industry-major-problems\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">underpaid garment workers<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2016\/05\/31\/business\/international\/top-retailers-fall-short-of-commitments-to-overseas-workers.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">hazardous working conditions<\/a>.
