On Thursday, Sugar Ray<\/a> announced that they have signed to a new contract with BMG and will be releasing their seventh studio album this summer. This will be the first new music the band has released in 10 years, following their 2009 album Music for Cougars<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are honored and so grateful to be signing with our second major label 25 years after we signed with our first!\u201d said founding member Mark McGrath in an email to Rolling Stone<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The Newport, California group, co-founded by McGrath and Rodney Sheppard, are best known for their 1997 pop-rock hit \u201cFly.\u201d In the intervening years since Music for Cougars<\/em>, the band has continued to be active in the music world, with McGrath appearing<\/a> at the Smashing Pumpkins<\/a>\u2018 30th anniversary concert in 2018 and performing in the I Love the Nineties Tour<\/a> the year prior. In a 2013 interview with Rolling Stone, <\/em>McGrath spoke candidly<\/a> about the band\u2019s legacy, and how he still enjoys performing \u201cFly\u201d even after over a decade of heavy radio rotation.<\/p>\n

\u201cI get called Sugar Ray all day long,\u201d he said. \u201cWe worked hard on that name. I\u2019m Sugar Ray no matter what happens. It\u2019s something I\u2019m proud of, so I\u2019m fighting hard to keep the name \u2026 \u2018Fly\u2019 came on the radio the other day and it felt like the first time. All I ever wanted and all I ever dreamed was having a song on the radio and having people respond to it.\u201d<\/p>\n
