Beach Boys<\/a> frontman Mike Love<\/a>, ostensibly an authority on beaches, recorded a cover of Ramones \u201cRockaway Beach\u201d for his upcoming solo album. The cover has more in common with the Beach Boys than the snarling punk original, thanks to big vocal harmonies and even a little Brian Wilson\u2013style \u201cooh-ee-oooh\u201d falsetto on top of it. The track closes out the LP 12 Sides of Summer<\/em>, which comes out July 19th.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt felt so natural to sing it,\u201d Love told Billboard<\/a><\/em> of the cover. \u201cIt fits beautifully in the Beach Boys surfing song genre. Not only is it a great song, it\u2019s also right in my vocal range. It\u2019s almost as if it was designed for me to sing, and that\u2019s why I am so eager to play it live.\u201d<\/p>\n

The rest of 12 Sides of Summer<\/em> is a mix of original songs and covers. He\u2019s included renditions of the Dave Clark Five\u2019s \u201cOver and Over,\u201d Abba\u2019s \u201cOn and On and On,\u201d the Beatles\u2019 \u201cHere Comes the Sun,\u201d Stan Getz and Astrud Gilberto\u2019s \u201cGirl From Ipanema\u201d and three numbers by the Beach Boys. Those include \u201cSurfin\u2019,\u201d \u201cSurfin\u2019 Safari\u201d and a version of \u201cIt\u2019s OK\u201d that features Hanson.<\/p>\n

Although Love and his cousin, Wilson, have clashed over the years since Love took control of the Beach Boys, the pair put their differences aside \u2014 alongside other Beach Boys members \u2014 in an interview for Sirius XM last year. \u201cBrian and I connect on a pretty primordial level,\u201d Love told Rolling Stone<\/a><\/em> afterwards. \u201cHe\u2019s got his own band. We\u2019ve got our own. We\u2019re usually on our own trajectories. It\u2019s very nice to get together.\u201d<\/p>\n
