Rock royalty Joan Jett<\/a> joined legendary punks Bikini Kill<\/a> onstage Tuesday night, for a live performance of their anthemic 1993 single, \u201cRebel Girl<\/a>.\u201d Set in Brooklyn\u2019s Kings Theatre, it was the band\u2019s seventh stop on their prodigious reunion tour<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Bikini Kill delivered nothing short of a thunderous performance in Brooklyn that night. Frontwoman Kathleen Hanna<\/a> offset her sobering, Trump-era stage banter with the occasional feminist standup routine \u2014 including epic jabs at ageism among Bikini Kill\u2019s own fans. \u201cDon\u2019t call me mom!\u201d she warned showgoers: \u201cFirst of all, I\u2019m not your fucking mom, and if one more person calls me \u2018Riot Mom\u2019 I\u2019m gonna put you all in a fucking station wagon! Why don\u2019t you go on Instagram and call Eddie Vedder \u2018Dad\u2019?\u201d<\/p>\n

After serving a high-octane arsenal of crowd favorites and deep cuts \u2014 a few of them sung by drummer Tobi Vail \u2014 the band ushered in the lone special guest that night: \u201cPlease welcome to the stage,\u201d said Hanna, \u201cJoan Jett!\u201d<\/p>\n

With axe in hand, Joan Jett took the stage and ripped through \u201cRebel Girl,\u201d as guitarist Erica Dawn Lyle and bassist Kathi Wilcox fiercely strummed along. Blazing brightly in every color of the rainbow, the stage lights flooded the theatre in (what one might suggest was) a strong showing of LGBTQ solidarity. \u201cIn her kiss,\u201d sang Hanna, \u201cI taste the revolution!\u201d<\/p>\n

Joan Jett last collaborated with the band in their 1998 compilation album, The Singles<\/em>. Jett produced, played guitar and shared vocal duties with Hanna in three songs: \u201cNew Radio,\u201d \u201cRebel Girl,\u201d and \u201cDemirep\u201d \u2014 which opens with Hanna and Jett indulging in a game of Miss Mary Mack. The album was reissued last year<\/a> and is now available on streaming services.<\/p>\n

\u201cBikini Kill was a really intense, amazing band to be in and I\u2019m happy that the music is going to be available to more people,\u201d said Hanna in 2018. \u201cI hope that for some people, it\u2019s the gateway drug to feminism<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bikini Kill will play one more date at the Kings Theatre, before they cross the Atlantic to play two shows in London. The band is also scheduled to headline this year\u2019s Riot Fest<\/a> in Chicago.<\/p>\n
