Longer days with lingering light allow for more time to be outside to hit the trails or roads or bike paths, whatever your preference. There is also an abundance of races on the upcoming calendar to add to your radar.

First up is the 43rd Annual Basalt Half-Marathon, moved up from its traditional August date to take place on Saturday, June 8, at 7:45 a.m. All ages and experience levels are welcome to take part in this fast, downhill run along the scenic Frying Pan River from Ruedi Reservoir into downtown Basalt. If that’s not incentive enough to get up early, the top three finishers in each age group will receive awards in this fundraiser for the Basalt High School Cross Country team. Race day registration is from 6:15 to 7 a.m. at Lions Park. Contact race director Ron Lund with questions at 970-618-2063.

Then kick off Food & Wine weekend with the annual Celebrity Chef 5K Charity Run on Friday, June 14, at 7 a.m. Register online or in person, then lace up your running kicks for a 3.1-mile-run through Aspen. Run alongside, behind or chasing after celebrity chefs and wine connoisseurs, while raising money for Wholesome Wave and the Jacques Pépin Foundation.

Registration for the Boogie’s Buddy 5 Mile Race on the Fourth of July also is open. The fundraiser for the Buddy Program includes a 5-mile USA Track & Field certified competitive race and a 1-mile Family and Canine run/walk. Over 1,000 participants (half local, half national), along with hundreds of observers and celebrants, kick off the Independence Day in style. New this year, join the Buddy 5 Mile Strava club and post your times while you train.

via:: The Aspen Times

Boogie’s Buddy 5 Mile female champion for 2018, Ashley Connolly, with her husband, Mike Connolly, of East Coast Asset Management, the title sponsor for this year’s race.
