The reissued album will be available on <a href=\"https:\/\/ume.lnk.to\/ShrekSoundtrackVinyl\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">August 2nd<\/a>. The soundtrack features Smash Mouth\u2019s \u201cAll Star,\u201d Rufus Wainwright\u2019s cover of \u201cHallelujah,\u201d Baha Men\u2019s cover of \u201cBest Years of Our Lives\u201d and both Smash Mouth and Eddie Murphy\u2019s versions of Neil Diamond\u2019s \u201cI\u2019m a Believer.\u201d A limited edition lime green vinyl will be available for purchase along with the wider-release black vinyl.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-845378\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/color-vinyl-product-shot-Shrek-Music-From-The-Original-Motion-Picture.jpeg?w=300\" alt width=\"300\" height=\"227\"><\/p>\n<p>Upon its release in 2001,&nbsp;<em>Shrek<\/em> was notable for its uses of covers and modern pop songs, a then-rarity for children\u2019s movies. \u201cMost music [for animated features] was composed, or the songs were created for the movie,\u201d <em>Shrek<\/em> co-director Vicky Jenson tells <em>Rolling Stone<\/em>. \u201cMost of the Disney animated movies had original songs and were thought of as musicals. Both [co-director] Andrew [Adamson] and I loved independent film and were influenced by ones that used current song that helped illustrate an emotional moment. It wasn\u2019t really done in animation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The&nbsp;<em>Shrek&nbsp;<\/em>franchise yielded four films, the most recent of which was 2010\u2019s&nbsp;<em>Shrek Forever After<\/em>. In 2011, the spin-off&nbsp;<em>Puss in Boots<\/em> was released. A musical adaptation of the first film was on Broadway from 2008 to 2010.&nbsp; Last year, <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2018\/film\/news\/shrek-puss-in-boots-reboot-1203020785\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Variety&nbsp;<\/em><\/a>announced that both&nbsp;<em>Shrek<\/em> and&nbsp;<em>Puss in Boots<\/em> would be rebooted though no further details have been revealed.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/shrek-green-vinyl-release-august-844579\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">via:: Rolling Stone<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Shrek fans can finally listen to the film\u2019s beloved soundtrack on vinyl.
