Pride. The Live Nation-produced event \u2014 named after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Go-West-Village-People\/dp\/B000ME1DDW\/ref=as_li_ss_tl?crid=8DEBXXQTW8GP&amp;keywords=village+people+go+west&amp;qid=1559944628&amp;s=gateway&amp;sprefix=calvin+,aps,173&amp;sr=8-1&amp;linkCode=ll1&amp;tag=rollingston07-20&amp;linkId=3e6fe14110f8a0d554978b801dd055ed&amp;language=en_US\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">the 1979 Village People song<\/a> about finding a utopia that\u2019s free from discrimination \u2014 brought together an almost-entirely <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/lgbtq\/\" id=\"auto-tag_lgbtq\" data-tag=\"lgbtq\">LGBTQ<\/a> lineup, who performed before a near-capacity crowd at the Wiltern Theatre. A portion of the proceeds from ticket sales went to advocacy organization GLAAD.<\/p>\n<p>Other artists on the bill included Allie X, Chika, Quay Dash, Dorian Electra, Gia Gunn, Carlie Hanson and Leland, while singer Daya made a surprise appearance to perform her hit, \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Dont-Let-Me-Down\/dp\/B01M6BWVRS\/ref=as_li_ss_tl?keywords=daya+dont+let+me+down&amp;qid=1559946802&amp;s=gateway&amp;sr=8-1&amp;linkCode=ll1&amp;tag=rollingston07-20&amp;linkId=d001988ff1bf7ca1c789ecc9890140f1&amp;language=en_US\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Don\u2019t Let Me Down.<\/a>\u201d The model-turned-singer Shaun Ross, also made an unannounced appearance to debut his new song with producer Duke Dumont, titled \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Light-Green-feat-Shaun-Ross\/dp\/B07NRNYJJ6\/ref=as_li_ss_tl?crid=8DEBXXQTW8GP&amp;keywords=duke+dumont+red+light+green+light&amp;qid=1559947897&amp;s=gateway&amp;sprefix=calvin+,aps,173&amp;sr=8-2&amp;linkCode=ll1&amp;tag=rollingston07-20&amp;linkId=856449d0990a479366aefd2314ba3ffb&amp;language=en_US\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Red Light, Green Light.<\/a>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/charli_xcx\/status\/1135660583288737793\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">teasing a new collaboration on social media<\/a>, Sivan and Charli XCX appeared together to debut a new song during Charli\u2019s set. Reportedly titled \u201c2099,\u201d the bass-heavy track is a sequel of sorts to their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/1999\/dp\/B07HM61HBN\/ref=as_li_ss_tl?crid=DBNMQOUQTK4P&amp;keywords=1999+charli+xcx&amp;qid=1559945568&amp;s=gateway&amp;sprefix=1999+charli,aps,202&amp;sr=8-1&amp;linkCode=ll1&amp;tag=rollingston07-20&amp;linkId=7215a1893746c0230081ceb1cf16d4b7&amp;language=en_US\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">nostalgia-tinged duet, \u201c1999,\u201d<\/a> which they released last fall.<\/p>\n<p>While Charli XCX helped to curate the lineup, Sivan was the driving force behind the festival, and the singer says he\u2019s been overwhelmed at the amount of support the event has received both from fans, and those in the industry.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI saw so much talent that I wanted to highlight,\u201d he tells <em>Rolling Stone<\/em>, \u201cand I just thought, \u2018What artists do I love and how do I bring them together?\u2019 I\u2019m so over the moon with how everything came together \u2013 it\u2019s been a real genuine expression of joy and community.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_845905\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-845905\" class=\"size-large wp-image-845905\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/3I0A1577-e1559946767329.jpg?w=1024\" alt=\"troye sivan gay pride go west fest\" width=\"1024\" height=\"809\"><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-845905\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Courtesy Henry Redcliffe<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Though he only started planning the festival nine months ago, Sivan says he\u2019s been wanting to find a tangible way to give back to the LGBTQ community since he first signed his record deal (originally with EMI Australia and later with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/capitol-records\/\" id=\"auto-tag_capitol-records\" data-tag=\"capitol-records\">Capitol Records<\/a>) more than five years ago. The fact that he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/pop-star-troye-sivan-on-why-coming-out-was-his-best-career-decision-103905\/\">publicly came out<\/a> during that time, with no major backlash or controversy, he says, is a testament to his team, and also to a changing entertainment landscape.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBoth of my labels really took a chance on me [as a gay artist] and entered a realm that for a major [label] was a really big step,\u201d he says. \u201cAnd they did it wholeheartedly and never questioned me or told me what to say or what to do. On Tuesday night, the label held their \u201cPride Kick-Off Party\u201d at West Hollywood nightclub, Micky\u2019s, where contestants from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Queens-Everywhere\/dp\/B07P5GN25J\/ref=as_li_ss_tl?crid=3I8HT56FA6XGP&amp;keywords=rupaul+drag+race+season+11&amp;qid=1559947055&amp;s=gateway&amp;sprefix=rupaul,aps,196&amp;sr=8-1&amp;linkCode=ll1&amp;tag=rollingston07-20&amp;linkId=68afbe059a922b6a43b86c9e49a1c496&amp;language=en_US\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\"><em>RuPaul\u2019s Drag Race<\/em><\/a> performed covers of popular songs by Capitol Records artists.
