{"id":2445171,"date":"2019-06-11T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2019-06-11T06:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.aspentimes.com\/?p=307665"},"modified":"2019-06-11T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2019-06-11T06:00:00","slug":"basalt-councils-review-of-skico-housing-plan-to-be-tabled-until-june-28","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/kspn\/local-news\/basalt-councils-review-of-skico-housing-plan-to-be-tabled-until-june-28\/","title":{"rendered":"Basalt council\u2019s review of Skico housing plan to be tabled until June 28"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">A hearing on Aspen Skiing Co.\u2019s request to build an affordable-housing project at Willits Town Center is scheduled to be tabled at tonight\u2019s Basalt Town Council meeting until June 25.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Skico officials asked the town June 4 to table the hearing for reasons that weren\u2019t identified in a letter to the town staff.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">\u201cWe would like to bring the application in front of council for a vote June 25,\u201d said the letter from Skico project manager Philip Jeffreys.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">The town has put the tabling request on the consent agenda.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Skico\u2019s preferred alternative is for <a id=\"N0x190faa0N0x1a71630:N0x190faa0N0x1afc940\" href=\"https:\/\/www.aspentimes.com\/news\/aspen-skiing-co-applies-to-build-148-bedroom-workforce-housing-project-at-willits-in-basalt\/\">36 housing units with 148 bedrooms<\/a>. The units would range from one to six bedrooms. While most of the housing would be for Skico employees, eight units would go to workers outside the company. A priority would be given to child care workers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Skico wanted to address parking obligations by building 34 off-street spaces on its property and buying 33 units on public streets that it would buy from the town for $202,000.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\"><a id=\"N0x190faa0N0x1a71690:N0x190faa0N0x1afcaa8\" href=\"https:\/\/www.aspentimes.com\/news\/local\/aspen-skiing-co-affordable-housing-plan-hits-hurdle-in-basalt\/\">At a May 14 meeting<\/a>, some council members said they wanted the project changed to provide more parking and a unit mix more in character with Willits. Skico submitted an alternative proposal prior to a May 28 meeting, but then announced at the hearing that <a id=\"N0x190faa0N0x1a717b0:N0x190faa0N0x1afcb80\" href=\"https:\/\/www.aspentimes.com\/news\/local\/basalt-council-deadlocked-on-skico-housing-plan-2-2-discussion-will-resume-june-11\/\">the alternative wasn\u2019t economically feasible<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">The council was deadlocked 2-2 on the project, so it failed to earn approval. The proposal was tabled to a later meeting so that more council members could participate in the vote. Councilwomen Jennifer Riffle and Katie Schwoerer couldn\u2019t attend the May 28 meeting.
