Radiohead<\/a> have released 18 hours of material from the OK Computer<\/em><\/a> era on Bandcamp<\/a> one week after it was leaked online.<\/p>\n

The release comprises 18 minidiscs that feature both full band material and music frontman Thom Yorke recorded by himself. The entire set \u2014 which has not been broken into individual tracks \u2014 is available to purchase for \u00a318, or about $23, for the next 18 days with all proceeds benefitting the climate change advocacy group Extinction Rebellion.<\/p>\n

In a note on the band\u2019s Instagram<\/a>, Radiohead guitarist Jonny Greenwood confirmed that the band had been hacked, writing \u201csomeone stole Thom\u2019s minidisk archive from around the time of OK Computer<\/em>, and reportedly demanded $150,000 on threat of releasing it. So instead of complaining \u2014 much \u2014 or ignoring it, we\u2019re releasing all 18 hours on Bandcamp in aid of Extinction Rebellion\u2026 So for \u00a318 you can find out if we should have paid that ransom.\u201d (The title of Greenwood\u2019s note, \u201cWalter Sobchack vs Bunny\u2019s toe,\u201d is a cheeky reference to the ransom plot in The Big Lebowski<\/em>.)<\/p>\n

According to Spin<\/em><\/a>, the minidiscs do contain a trove of previously unreleased material, including snippets of unfinished songs, ambient noises, full band rehearsals and demos (following the initial leak, Radiohead fans compiled a comprehensive track list<\/a> complete with descriptions, annotations and made-up song titles when necessary). The collection also includes some non-album songs, such as \u201cLift\u201d and \u201cI Promise,\u201d that were included on the 20th anniversary edition<\/a> of OK Computer,<\/em> released in 2017.<\/p>\n

Greenwood closed his note by writing the material on the minidiscs was \u201cNever intended for public consumption (though some clips did reach the cassette in the OK Computer<\/em> reissue) it\u2019s only tangentially interesting. And very, very long. Not a phone download. Rainy out, isn\u2019t it though?\u201d<\/p>\n
