\u201cAnything that\u2019s a breakup song, I want to feel empowering now instead of all these ones where I was like, \u2018Fucking pity me\u2019,\u201d<\/em> he continued. \u201cI don\u2019t want to be shitty, I would never in a million years be like, \u2018Oh you bitch\u2019. That\u2019s not cool. I\u2019m not about name-calling or anything like that, but anything that\u2019s breakup-y, I don\u2019t want to be the clich\u00e9 white dude with a guitar whining.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cWe were all personally going through our own difficulties,\u201d<\/em> Geoff says of that period. \u201cI was going through a really exciting time, but it was also extremely rough. I had my first kid and that was a huge moment. I had to start learning how to balance the two [sides of my life].\u201d <\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cI think it\u2019ll be fun to have a lost album,\u201d<\/em> added Awsten, mischievously. \u201cWe were on the One OK Rock tour, and I was kind of dealing with some stuff on that. I was like, \u2018Man, honestly, I\u2019ve got a lot of other shit to say that\u2019s not this\u2019. As soon as I got back I was like, \u2018Alright, people need to hear something else\u2019. There are a lot of other things that are talked about on the new songs that are more of a focal point for what I feel right now. I feel like the best you can ever do is to be as up-front with yourself emotionally and mentally as possible.\u201d He stops and thinks for a second. \u201cI just didn\u2019t want to set myself up again.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n
