Taylor Swift<\/a> stopped by New York\u2019s iconic LGBTQ+ bar Stonewall Inn for a surprise performance on Friday night.<\/p>\n

The singer made her appearance during AEG and Stonewall Inn\u2019s pride celebration, in honor of the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising. While the event\u2019s headliner Jesse Tyler Ferguson was presenting, Swift came onstage to perform an acoustic rendition of her 1989<\/em> single \u201cShake It Off.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI heard that this is Jesse\u2019s favorite song to do at karaoke,\u201d Swift said of the track. \u201cSo if there\u2019s anything you feel like you want to jump in on, if there\u2019s like, your part that you\u2019re really good at, then, just sing, dance, just be yourself. This is a really safe space.\u201d The Modern Family<\/em> actor ended up returning to the stage to sing part of \u201cShake It Off\u201d with Swift.<\/p>\n

Swift\u2019s surprise performance came just hours after she released her new single \u201cYou Need To Calm Down<\/a>,\u201d which features on her seventh studio album Lover<\/em> and boasts lyrics in support of GLAAD and the LGBTQ+ community. The track\u2019s release follows the record\u2019s lead single \u201cME!\u201d<\/a> with Panic! At The Disco\u2019s Brendon Urie.<\/p>\n

On Thursday, the pop singer did an Instagram Live where she announced not only the release of her new single, but the title and release date of her forthcoming 18-track album<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Swift has been vocal about her advocacy for the LGBTQ community. At the onset of Pride Month on June 1st, she penned an open letter<\/a> to Tennessee\u2019s Republican Senator Lamar Alexander urging the Senate to pass the Equality Act, which curbs employers from discriminating against anyone because of their sexual orientation and\/or gender identity.<\/p>\n

Swift\u2019s new album Lover<\/em> is due August 23rd.<\/p>\n
