Manuel Oliver, the father of Parkland<\/a> high school shooting victim Joaquin Oliver, delivered a powerful speech during ska legends the Specials<\/a>\u2019 Friday night concert at New York\u2019s Brooklyn Steel.<\/p>\n

Oliver was invited onstage by the group \u2013 \u201cOne of my favorite bands ever,\u201d he told the crowd \u2013 and spoke about losing his son in the Marjory Stoneman Douglas shooting and subsequently dedicating his life to activism<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis country has a few problems, and the one that concerns me the most is that we think \u2013 because of some people are sending the wrong message \u2013 in order to be secure is to carry a fucking gun. And I say no to that,\u201d Oliver told the crowd.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd I say no to that because I am old-school, bad-ass motherfucker, like most of you here. And the good news is that Americas thinks in kind of an old-school way of activism<\/a>, a way where you can push each other.\u201d<\/p>\n

Joaquin \u201cGuac\u201d Oliver was one of 17 students and staff members killed in the February 14th, 2018 shooting in Parkland, Florida; Oliver was buried in the jersey of Miami Heat star Dwyane Wade, who grew close to the family in the aftermath of the shooting.<\/p>\n

Manuel Oliver previously criticized Louis C.K. following news that the disgraced comedian made Parkland-inspired jokes<\/a> in his standup sets. Oliver has since dedicated his life to activism with Change the Ref<\/a>, which \u201cuses urban art and nonviolent creative confrontation to expose the disastrous effects of the mass shooting pandemic,\u201d the organization states.<\/p>\n

\u201cOn February 14th, yes they murdered our son. But Patricia and me, Joaquin\u2019s parents, are still here. And we\u2019re gonna keep this fight along with you. Now, it\u2019s a little too late for us to protect our kid, but now our duty and our job is to protect your kids,\u201d Manuel Oliver added at the Specials\u2019 gig.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen they murdered our son, they fucked with the wrong family. And now we\u2019re gonna solve this problem,\u201d he concluded before leaping into the waiting mosh pit.<\/p>\n

Manuel Oliver, Guac\u2019s Dad lived in the UK during middle school and one if his favorite songs was \u201cToo much too young\u201d by @thespecials<\/a> .
