{"id":2445622,"date":"2019-06-22T17:59:52","date_gmt":"2019-06-22T23:59:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.aspentimes.com\/?p=308331"},"modified":"2019-06-22T17:59:52","modified_gmt":"2019-06-22T23:59:52","slug":"winter-weather-welcomes-summer-around-aspen-central-colorado-mountains","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/kspn\/local-news\/winter-weather-welcomes-summer-around-aspen-central-colorado-mountains\/","title":{"rendered":"Winter weather welcomes summer around Aspen, central Colorado mountains"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<div class=\"caption-container\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"680\" height=\"404\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.aspentimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2019\/06\/Screen-Shot-2019-06-22-at-5.54.07-PM.png\" class=\"attachment-large size-large wp-post-image\" alt srcset=\"https:\/\/cdn.aspentimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2019\/06\/Screen-Shot-2019-06-22-at-5.54.07-PM.png 680w, https:\/\/cdn.aspentimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2019\/06\/Screen-Shot-2019-06-22-at-5.54.07-PM-300x178.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 680px) 100vw, 680px\"><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Weather advisories coming from the National Weather Service ran the gamut Saturday in Pitkin County and around Aspen, and it didn\u2019t seem like the second day of summer.<\/p>\n<p>A winter storm advisory calls for periods of snow above 9,000 feet into Sunday morning, severe weather popping up in the Roaring Fork Valley and flood advisories because of the snowmelt combined with afternoon rain.<\/p>\n<p>The National Weather Service issued a <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"winter weather advisory (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/forecast.weather.gov\/wwamap\/wwatxtget.php?cwa=gjt&amp;wwa=winter%20weather%20advisory\" target=\"_blank\">winter weather advisory<\/a> Saturday for areas around Aspen, the Elk Mountains and central Colorado with snow expected above 9,000 feet until 6 a.m. Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAdditional snowfall of 3 to 5 inches with local amounts up to 8 inches above 10,000 feet,\u201d the NWS\u2019s Grand Junction office stated in an update Saturday afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>Highway 82 over Independence Pass (12,095-foot summit) remained open Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>The National Weather Service sent out a flood advisory for the Crystal Valley in the morning, and storms rolled through the area that included half-inch-sized hail and 40 mph wind gusts in the afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRecent rainfall continues to increase snow melt runoff.
