Arlo and Nora Guthrie were named king and queen at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/coney-island\/\" id=\"auto-tag_coney-island\" data-tag=\"coney-island\">Coney Island<\/a>\u2019s 37th annual Mermaid Parade on Saturday. Dressed like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=rLGY4RGZiYs\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">King Triton<\/a> from <em>The Little Mermaid<\/em>, the singer-songwriter rode through the parade alongside his sister, who wore seaweed hair and held an acoustic guitar.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy sister and I were in full costume as we took on the roles of The Mermaid Queen and King Neptune,\u201d Guthrie <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/arloguthrie\/posts\/10162209047080195\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">wrote on his Facebook<\/a>. \u201cThe parade was fabulous, and the outfits (if that) were amazing. Our immediate entourage was fairly tame in comparison to some of the participants, but we all had a great time being a part of the event.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That same day, the children of the folk legend honored their father with the unveiling of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/woody-guthrie\/\" id=\"auto-tag_woody-guthrie\" data-tag=\"woody-guthrie\">Woody Guthrie<\/a> Way \u2014 located at Coney Island\u2019s Mermaid Avenue between West 35th and West 36th Street \u2014 where Guthrie lived in the 1940s. The New York City Council <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/nyc-streets-notorious-b-i-g-wu-tang-clan-woody-guthrie-772493\/\">also recently named streets<\/a> in honor of the Notorious B.I.G. and the Wu-Tang Clan.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe left NYC the next morning complete exhausted, but thrilled to have taken part in the history of Coney Island,\u201d Guthrie continued. \u201cI got home, ripped off my clothes and dove into the cement pond. A cold glass of whisky, hot cup of coffee, and a snack brought me back to the hills of western Massachusetts.
