Madonna<\/a> highlights the devastation of gun violence \u2014 and our maddening inability to take meaningful action to prevent it \u2014 in her chilling new \u201cGun Control\u201d video. The clip contrasts the joy of nightclub dancing with the brutality of a mass shooting.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe story you are about to see is very disturbing,\u201d warns the opening text. \u201cIt shows graphic scenes of gun violence. But it\u2019s happening every day. And it has to stop.\u201d From there, director Jonas \u00c5kerlund cuts to the deadly shooting, a children\u2019s choir singing at a church vigil, scenes from a Seventies-styled discotheque and modern-day protests against guns and the NRA. In-between, Madonna churns out the song\u2019s lyrics on a typewriter.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI want to draw attention through my platform as an artist to a problem in America that is out of control and is taking the lives of innocent people,\u201d Madonna said of the video in a statement. \u201cThis crisis can end if our legislators act to change the laws that fail to protect us all.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

She elaborated on the clip via Instagram<\/a>, writing, \u201cThis is your wake up call. Gun violence disproportionately affects children, teenagers and the marginalized in our communities \u2026 Honor the victims and demand GUN CONTROL. NOW. Volunteer, stand up, donate, reach out. Wake up and insist on common-sense gun safety legislation \u2026 Innocent lives depend on it.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cGod Control\u201d is the vocalist\u2019s third single from her recently issued 14th LP, Madame X<\/em><\/a>, following \u201cMedell\u00edn\u201d<\/a> and \u201cCrave.\u201d<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n
