Beach Boys singer Mike Love<\/a> celebrates a familiar locale on his breezy new song \u201cCalifornia Beach.\u201d Over stacked vocal harmonies, acoustic strums and bright keys, the frontman romanticizes a scene \u201cwhere surfers and surfing, and dancers are dancing.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThat mythical place out west; the California I\u2019ve been blessed to call home has provided a lifetime of inspiration,\u201d Love says of the track. \u201cCalifornia Beach, in reality is not one, but many wonderful places that have held an allure beckoning so many for countless years. This song has been living in my head for a long time and finally, \u2018California Beach\u2019 has come to life just in time for summer.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cCalifornia Beach\u201d appears on Love\u2019s upcoming fourth solo LP, 12 Sides of Summer<\/em>, out July 19th. Sam Hollander (Panic! at the Disco) and Josh Edmondson produced the album, which features a blend of original tracks, updated versions of Beach Boys songs (\u201cSurfin,\u201d \u201cSurfin\u2019 Safari\u201d and the Hanson-featured \u201cIt\u2019s OK\u201d) and other covers (including the Beatles\u2019 \u201cHere Comes the Sun,\u201d the Dave Clark Five\u2019s \u201cOver and Over and Over Again,\u201d Eddie Cochran\u2019s \u201cSummertime Blues\u201d and ABBA\u2019s \u201cOn and On and On\u201d).<\/span><\/p>\n

The record also includes a version of the Ramones\u2019 \u201cRockaway Beach,\u201d<\/a> which Love recently issued as lead single. Love performed the track onstage<\/a> with that band\u2019s drummer, Marky Ramone, in May.<\/span><\/p>\n

In July 2018, Love and other surviving members of the classic Beach Boys lineup reunited for a SiriusXM Q&A<\/a>. \u201cBrian and I connect on a pretty primordial level,\u201d the vocalist told Rolling Stone<\/em> after the event. \u201cHe\u2019s got his own band. We\u2019ve got our own. We\u2019re usually on our own trajectories. It\u2019s very nice to get together.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
