{"id":2445979,"date":"2019-07-03T10:49:09","date_gmt":"2019-07-03T16:49:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/?p=855369"},"modified":"2019-07-03T10:49:09","modified_gmt":"2019-07-03T16:49:09","slug":"hear-chrissie-hyndes-jazzy-take-on-french-song-que-reste-t-il-de-nos-amours","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/kspn\/music-news\/hear-chrissie-hyndes-jazzy-take-on-french-song-que-reste-t-il-de-nos-amours\/","title":{"rendered":"Hear Chrissie Hynde\u2019s Jazzy Take on French Song \u2018Que Reste-t-il De nos Amours?\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/Chrissie-Hynde-by-JF-Feb-2019_JF2_1350-MASTER-PRESS-LOW-RES.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/chrissie-hynde\/\" id=\"auto-tag_chrissie-hynde\" data-tag=\"chrissie-hynde\">Chrissie Hynde<\/a> slides into a smooth French croon with her version of \u201cQue Reste-t-il De nos Amours?\u201d, the 1942 Chanson song by Charles Trenet.<\/span> <span class=\"s1\">Throughout the breezy track, Hynde sweetly sings over jazzy piano, billowing strings, brushed drums and upright bass.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cQue Reste-t-il De nos Amours?\u201d appears on the Pretenders singer\u2019s upcoming covers LP, <em>Valve Bone Woe<\/em>, which also features jazz-inspired takes on songs from the Beach Boys (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/chrissie-hynde-valve-bone-woe-covers-album-caroline-no-827596\/\">\u201cCaroline No\u201d<\/a>), Frank Sinatra, John Coltrane, Nick Drake, Charles Mingus (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/chrissie-hynde-charles-mingus-meditation-on-a-pair-of-wire-cutters-843840\/\">\u201cMeditation on a Pair of Wire Cutters\u201d<\/a>) and Ray Davies, among others.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cI\u2019m not hugely interested in branching out into other musical genres, being a devout rock singer as such, but jazz is something I grew up around (thanks to my bro) and I\u2019ve always had a soft spot for it,\u201d Hynde said in a statement announcing the record, which she recorded with the Valve Bone Ensemble in London. \u201cI often bemoan what I regard as a decline in melody in popular music and I wanted to sing melodies. Plus, I have a penchant for cover songs, it\u2019s the surprise of singing something that I didn\u2019t think of writing myself that turns me on.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Hynde will perform much of the album with a special concert on Saturday, July 6th at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles.
