{"id":2446036,"date":"2019-07-05T09:06:47","date_gmt":"2019-07-05T15:06:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/?p=855818"},"modified":"2019-07-05T09:06:47","modified_gmt":"2019-07-05T15:06:47","slug":"watch-the-rolling-stones-play-mercy-mercy-for-first-time-in-50-years","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/kspn\/music-news\/watch-the-rolling-stones-play-mercy-mercy-for-first-time-in-50-years\/","title":{"rendered":"Watch the Rolling Stones Play \u2018Mercy, Mercy\u2019 for First Time in 50 Years"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/rolling-stones-mercy.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/the-rolling-stones\/\" id=\"auto-tag_the-rolling-stones\" data-tag=\"the-rolling-stones\">The Rolling Stones<\/a> have pulled out surprises nearly every night on their summer tour, but none were quite as unexpected as \u201cMercy, Mercy\u201d from their show at Landover, Maryland\u2019s FedExField on Wednesday night.<\/p>\n<p>The band last played the Don Covay &amp; The Goodtimers cover 50 years ago almost to the day \u2013 July 5th, 1969 \u2013 during their famous show in London\u2019s Hyde Park right after the death of founding guitarist Brian Jones; it was previously a regular part of their set in the mid-Sixties. \u201cIt\u2019s a long time ago,\u201d Jagger told the crowd before singing it, \u201cso we\u2019re going to try to remember it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Stones were supposed to begin their tour of North American stadiums earlier this summer, but they had to push back the start date so Jagger could recover from heart surgery. It began at Chicago\u2019s Soldier Field on June 21st, where Jagger put on a truly remarkable performance considering the circumstances. \u201cMick was extra Mick tonight, as if maybe somewhere deep in that surgically reconstructed heart of stone, he felt he had something to prove,\u201d <em>Rolling Stone\u2019s<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-live-reviews\/rolling-stones-chicago-comeback-concert-review-851420\/\">Rob Sheffield wrote in his review of the show.<\/a> \u201cIf so, he proved it. The show was a triumph for the World\u2019s Greatest Rock &amp; Roll Band, with Mick prancing all over the stadium in prime hip-shaking, troubadour-trapping fight mode.<\/p>\n<p>As always, the show is heavy on well-worn hits like \u201cGimme Shelter,\u201d \u201cStart Me Up\u201d and \u201cBrown Sugar,\u201d but they\u2019ve also played rarities like \u201cSad Sad Sad,\u201d \u201cMonkey Man,\u201d \u201cRocks Off,\u201d \u201cPlay With Fire\u201d and \u201cShe\u2019s a Rainbow.\u201d The tour wraps up August 31st at Hard Rock Stadiums in Miami Gardens, Florida.<\/p>\n<p> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/rolling-stones-mercy-mercy-855818\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">via:: Rolling Stone<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Rolling Stones have pulled out surprises nearly every night on their summer tour, but none were quite as unexpected as \u201cMercy, Mercy\u201d from their show at Landover, Maryland\u2019s FedExField on Wednesday night.
