The Who<\/a> brought their Moving On!<\/em> orchestral tour to London\u2019s Wembley Stadium on Saturday evening, and they were joined by Eddie Vedder<\/a> for the Quadrophenia<\/em> classic \u201cThe Punk and The Godfather.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s going to share this song with me because he knows where it came from,\u201d Roger Daltrey told the crowd before turning to Vedder. \u201cWhat one were you? You were also the one with the stutter?\u201d \u201cNo,\u201d Vedder replied. \u201cI\u2019m still the punk.\u201d<\/p>\n

Vedder has always cited Quadrophenia<\/em> as one of his favorite albums and he\u2019s joined the Who to perform songs from it many times. \u201cIt saved my life,\u201d Vedder once said. \u201cIt was something I could catch, because for some reason it seemed like I could not relate to anyone in the world. With no one in my school and certainly with no one in my house, and all of a sudden, this London guy named Pete came in who knew everything that was going on in my life.\u201d<\/p>\n

Saturday\u2019s concert was also noteworthy for the inclusion of a new song the Who\u2019s upcoming studio album purportedly titled \u201cHero Ground Zero.\u201d The album \u2013 which will be their first since 2006\u2019s Endless Wire<\/em> \u2013 was written by Pete Townshend over the last year. Roger Daltrey was initially unsure about the songs,<\/a> but he\u2019s since come around to it in a big way.<\/p>\n

\u201cI took the songs away and I listened to them, and listened to them some more, and I had some ideas,\u201d Daltrey recently said.<\/a> \u201c[Pete] let me have a bit of freedom with changing a few things, changing the tenses of songs and other little things. And he gave me complete melodic freedom. And I gotta tell you that after being very skeptical I\u2019m now incredibly optimistic. think we\u2019ve made our best album since Quadrophenia<\/em>. Pete hasn\u2019t lost it, he\u2019s still a fabulous songwriter and he\u2019s still got that cutting edge, man.\u201d<\/p>\n

Vedder also served as opening act<\/a> for the Who at Wembley Stadium, playing a set heavy on Pearl Jam classics like \u201cBlack,\u201d \u201cBetter Man\u201d and \u201cPorch.\u201d Glen Hansard joined the Pearl Jam singer on \u201cSociety,\u201d \u201cBlack\u201d and a cover of Queen\u2019s \u201cCrazy Little Thing Called Love.\u201d Pete Townshend\u2019s brother Simon joined Vedder for a take on his original song \u201cI\u2019m The Answer.\u201d<\/p>\n
