So much so that the late night host challenged <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/john-legend\/\" id=\"auto-tag_john-legend\" data-tag=\"john-legend\">John Legend<\/a> to a riff-off that put the summer bop up against the summer ballad during a segment on <em>The Late Late Show<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhenever I turn the radio on now all I\u2019m getting are like slow, boring ballads,\u201d Corden tells the audience during the clip. \u201cAre you experiencing this? I want to roll down the windows, I want to jam out. No one wants to hear some guy on a guitar crying about his girlfriend in the middle of the summer. It just feels wrong. Seriously, who would want to listen to a ballad when you could listen to a great summer bop? They\u2019re so boring.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI heard you\u2019ve been telling people bops are better than ballads,\u201d Legend replies, arriving onstage with a microphone. \u201cI feel attacked. It feels, like, kind of personal. For me, summer\u2019s a time to slow things down.\u201d He adds, \u201cHow about we settle this, right here, right now?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For their ballads versus bops riff-off, the pair take turns singing various summer hits a capella with the help of The Filharmonic. Corden starts with the Jonas Brothers\u2019 recent single \u201cSucker\u201d while Legend croons a version of All-4-One classic \u201cI Swear.\u201d Corden also (hilariously) takes on Billie Eilish\u2019s \u201cBad Guy.\u201d Legend even includes his own \u201cAll of Me\u201d to help prove his point about ballads being best, much to the delight of the audience.<\/p>\n<p>After Corden declares Legend the winner, Legend says, \u201cMaybe there\u2019s a world where the song of the summer is a ballad.
