The record, produced by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/st-vincent\/\">St. Vincent<\/a>, arrives August 16th.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCan I Go On\u201d combines existential despair and rage over the current era in its seething guitar riffs and lyrics: \u201cSell our rage, buy and trade, but we still cry for free every day\u2026\u2026 maybe I\u2019m not sure I wanna go on at all.\u201d From the opening line, \u201cEveryone is tired\/And everyone is wired\/To machines,\u201d it\u2019s clear that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/carrie-brownstein\/\" id=\"auto-tag_carrie-brownstein\" data-tag=\"carrie-brownstein\">Carrie Brownstein<\/a>, who once again leads vocals on their fourth single in a row, means to address the technological dread brought on by the contemporary news cycle.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn this song, a woman\u2019s desire is used against her, so she turns it into a sinister infectiousness,\u201d Brownstein said in a statement. \u201cThe narrator finds herself on the brink of self-annihilation, grappling with the paradox of an internal darkness at odds with the pressure to outwardly perform modes of joy, relatability, and likability.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCan I Go On\u201d follows the release of prior singles <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/sleater-kinney-hurry-on-home-lyric-video-new-song-tour-841461\/\">\u201cHurry On Home,\u201d<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/sleater-kinney-preview-album-the-future-is-here-848189\/\">\u201cThe Future Is Here\u201d<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/sleater-kinney-the-center-wont-hold-lyric-video-860070\/\">\u201cThe Center Won\u2019t Hold.<\/a>\u201d Sleater-Kinney will hit the road this fall for a North American tour in support of the album.
