{"id":2447100,"date":"2019-08-02T07:56:33","date_gmt":"2019-08-02T13:56:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/?p=866445"},"modified":"2019-08-02T07:56:33","modified_gmt":"2019-08-02T13:56:33","slug":"brother-sister-indie-duo-wardell-release-debut-single-im-a-man","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/kspn\/music-news\/brother-sister-indie-duo-wardell-release-debut-single-im-a-man\/","title":{"rendered":"Brother-Sister Indie Duo Wardell Release Debut Single \u2018I\u2019m a Man\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/wardell-1.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p>Wardell, the brother-sister indie duo from Theo and Sasha Spielberg, have released their first single called \u201cI\u2019m a Man.\u201d The children of filmmaker <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/steven-spielberg\/\" id=\"auto-tag_steven-spielberg\" data-tag=\"steven-spielberg\">Steven Spielberg<\/a> and actress Kate Capshaw, the group will be releasing their second album later this year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m a Man\u201d is a low-tempo ballad from the siblings that muses over the pains of growing up, especially in these troubling times: \u201cGood for our attention addiction\/What\u2019s the difference between telling lies\/And swearing that the truth is on fire?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Wardell first began as a duo titled Brother\/Sister, writing and recording music since they were young and first playing shows in 2010. They released their debut album,&nbsp;<em>Love\/Idleness<\/em>, in 2015, two years after their first EP&nbsp;<em>Brother\/Sister. Love\/Idleness,&nbsp;<\/em>recorded primarily in the duo\u2019s childhood home, was created just prior to Theo moving to New York to book music for <em>Saturday Night Live<\/em> while Sasha continued to work in Los Angeles, collaborating with other musicians such as Nicolas Jaar.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re incredibly honest,\u201d Sasha says. \u201cI don\u2019t tiptoe around my choice of words with Theo. This can start some fights, but in a very healthy way.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis was one of the first songs we wrote for the album but also one of the last songs to be recorded,\u201d adds Theo. \u201cSo while the song\u2019s sentiment informed the rest of the album, it took recording most of the rest of the album in order to zero in on the sonics and the vibe of this song. It\u2019s very self-reflexive in that way. This album was written while we were both questioning our individual relationships, realizing we were outgrowing old patterns and partners.
