This year’s gala evening, which took place on Friday, Aug. 2, under a grand tent at the base of Buttermilk, was themed “Heavenly Rapture,” in homage to the 2019 artist honoree Lisa Yuskavage and her ethereal work. Lisa was this year’s “Aspen Award for Art” honoree and will have a solo exhibition at the museum in February. Additional cause for celebration at this year’s event was the commemoration of the fifth anniversary of the museum’s Shigeru Ban-designed building and 40 years of the institution itself. During dinner, event chair Amy Phelan expressed gratitude from the stage, thanking the AAM’s board of trustees, national council and staff. Also acknowledged were presenting sponsor Sotheby’s and event sponsors J.P. Morgan, and Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits, and Stonefox for the event design and concept, along with sponsor galleries David Kordansky, David Zwirner, Gavlak, kurimanzutto and Lehmann Maupin. Phelan also paid special tribute to outgoing CEO and director Heidi Zuckerman, who has led the AAM for the past 14 years, generating a standing ovation from the audience. The festivities continue this weekend with a 24-hour party at the museum. The Whole Celebration is open to the public at no charge with events going around the clock starting Saturday, Aug. 10, at 5 p.m. through Sunday, Aug. 11.

Visit http://www.aspenartmuseum.org for details.

via:: The Aspen Times

The artists and the curator – Fred Tomaselli, Soo Sunny Park, Marc Dennis, Ken Solomon, Nir Hod, Rodney MicMillian, Heidi Zuckerman, Gisela Colton, Mickalene Thomas and Oscar Murillo.
